You will work on cases related to the defensibility of medical decisions and adherence to the standard of care.
This includes translating medical records into clear narratives, creating chronologies, and assessing whether actions were within reasonable behavior.
Cases are assigned based on clinical specialty and experience.

Atlas considers cases for both sides of legal disputes, but does not engage in frivolous suits or predatory prosecutions of medical professionals.

Your involvement may include assessing case merit, preparing chronologies, providing detailed case reviews, participating in depositions (via Zoom), and offering testimony (in-person or virtual). Specific responsibilities will depend on the case requirements.

Compensation is hourly and based on a standard fee schedule previously negotiated with partner law firms. Payment is issued within 30 days of completing deliverables.
Rates vary as shown:
Merit, Chronology, Review — $400 per hour
Depositions — $770 per hour
Testimony — $1,225 per hour

There is no minimum commitment, and you can decline cases. An initial review typically requires 3 to 5 hours per week over 3 to 6 weeks. Merit reviews and chronologies require less time, while depositions and testimony may require more. Scheduled work accommodates your availability, but deadlines for accepted cases are firm.

Onboarding includes comprehensive training, templates, examples, and access to one-on-one mentorship with experienced consultants. Resources such as UpToDate and other reference guides are provided. All deliverables are reviewed internally for quality and accuracy before submission to clients.

Atlas provides malpractice coverage for all consulting activities. While legal action against consultants is rare, you are protected by a platinum-tier policy.

You must be licensed and actively practicing in at least one U.S. state. No additional credentialing is required, and Atlas ensures your qualifications align with case requirements.

Cases are matched to your expertise. You have complete discretion to accept or decline cases, with no obligation to take on work.

This work is generally seen as a professional enhancement. Conflicts of interest are addressed during case assignment, and a non-compete agreement prevents direct relationships with law firms you encounter through Atlas for two years.

Atlas provides guidance and resources for preparation. Travel expenses for in-person appearances are covered by the client, though scheduling is usually the consultant’s responsibility unless arranged by the client.

Most work is remote, including depositions and testimony via Zoom. In-person appearances may occasionally be required, which will be noted when the case is assigned.

You are free to decline any cases that conflict with your professional values. There is no obligation to accept work.

Your testimony may become part of the public record, but all other aspects of your work with Atlas are kept confidential.

Atlas offers mentorship through one-on-one calls with experienced consultants. Ongoing feedback and training materials are available to help refine your skills.

You may work with other consulting firms, provided there is no overlap with law firms you encounter through Atlas. A two-year non-compete applies to firms introduced via Atlas.

You will review medical records and other documents. Atlas and its partner law firms ensure materials are pre-organized for ease of review.

You will primarily interact with attorneys during expert reviews, depositions, and testimony. Direct communication may occur for case-specific questions, and all interactions are billable.

The flexibility of this role allows you to adjust your workload based on your availability. Cases can be declined to accommodate your schedule.
